It's when you pick, ;D with a pick, ;D and the pick is flat, ;D and therefore you flat pick with it ;D

then thats picking! why the hell call it flat picking? picks are flat anyway, its not like you can avoid flat picking. unless you turn it on its edge like i do sometimes for the effect

In all seriousness.............maybe to differentiate between finger picking and flat picking - if you just say "Picking" then it could be confusing to the less musically inclined in the group.............you know, like the drummer? ;D

picks are flat anyway, its not like you can avoid flat picking. unless you turn it on its edge like i do sometimes for the effect Umm, personally I've never heard the term 'flat picking', but there is more than one type of pick available.... Thumb Pick (pictured) Flat Pick (pictured) Finger Pick - like a fingernail extension for the fingers on the strumming hand.
