My dad and I recently went to a maton workshop/blatant advertising night and it was fairly cool, just finding out stuff about guitar making and things like that.
My dad wanted a steel-string guitar but with the spacings of a classical/nylon guitar. So what they agreed to do was put a 12 string neck on a 6 string body and have only 6 tuning pegs. It would have cost $1500 but dad bargained them down and so they did us a deal; it's now $1100, with free guitar case. It'll be here in about 4 or 5 weeks so I'll post pics when we get it.

So what body style is it? Sounds like going straight to the factory saves you heaps

The workshop was at Allans, a music retailer you might have heard about. It's going to have a dreadnaught body style. The 225 is their cheapest model but still it's a-grade fantastic.

Over a year old thread and no pics?? Bargaining is definitely the way to go though, even through retailers.... I recently bought a new Maton EM325C (RRP AU$1799) with a Hiscox Flight Case (RRP AU$299) after getting quotes from QLD down the eastern seaboard all the way around to SA. It pays to shop around... RRP = AU$2098 Paid - AU$1625 Saved AU$473 on RRP listed price Maybe not the best deal around, but I was happy to pick it up locally and not have to pay for shipping. NEVER PAY RETAIL!!! ;D
