Hi All Has anyone heard of Cole Clarke Guitars and what do you think of them? I know they are Aussie made. I was looking at a Strat, but for the price I thought it might be nice to keep the money at home. How do they sound and play etc? Any help would be great. ;D

There are 3 Cole Clarke guitars for sale on ebay. A defender for $895 A defender for $995 And a Fat Lady2 acoustic a la Pete Murray for $995 You might have to be quick as they only have 2 hrs to go.Although noone has bid on them so they will no doubt be relisted. Or have a look at this site. www.guitar.com.au/guitars/electric/index.htm

now i've played all the cole clarks in the shop and i have to say that i wasn't that inmpressted with any of the electrics. none of them really had a very good action and the strat sounded very thin to me. the mistrests was uncomforatble to play. i don't know they may vary but what i can say is that the make the bes acoustic guitars un 3 grand at least i've got a Fat lady and i wouldn't think of buying anything else they are just that good. and starting a $950 ( the one i got) it is just a amazing! o go to all the shops i try all the guitars theres not one that compares. just buy them. now my dads thinking of getting one. buy one now!

Cole Clark's acoustics are some of the best going around!! Can't wait to try out the new 12 string they are developing with john Butler - apparently like no other guitar made before, they should shred!! peace trav

ive heard of some issues with the acoustics since they havent got the join from the neck to the stock correct that they can come loose. they are a great sounding guitar but i think there not quite 100% yet

I beg to differ. Yesterday I tried the FL2 after I read fantastic user reviews from Australian & US owners. I was dead set on a FL2 until I tried it out. I was deadset on getting a Fat Lady 2 after reading users review on harmony-central.com. Comments like the brilliant tonal quality and resonance, full sound and great projection. I went in to one of a nsw dealers with great anticipation.
To my disappointment, the bottom end was rather flat and not punchy. The highs was not bright or ringy as I was expecting and not as full. I know this could all be subjective to individual taste but that dealer also carried Matons. I tried their EM325C which is the Fat lady 2 equivalent and I got fuller sound, better projection and sustain and better tonal quality. In fact, their 225's sounded better too. I was so disappointed I left the shop for a re-think and I was willing to part with my money right there and then. All guitars tried were Spruce tops.
What made me had a bad impression of the Fat Lady was the finishing. I could find uneven surfaces especially where the neck meets the cutaway. It was not flushed. I was totally disillusioned!!! The shop owner was shocked!!! Pat

obviously you didnt put the guitars through an amp, when you do you will be shocked ! the AP5 pickups on the maton just cannot compare to the cole clark.
again, its all very subjective but i think a lot of people would agree with me on this one

I got a FL1AC. This guitar was far superior to the EM325C I played at another shop, and way cheaper. Brad Clark made Maton the company they are today. He made their guitars. He knows a lot about guitars, now he makes his own. Bloody good on him too. Maton guitars are sweet, but they need this sort of competition. There is no ply in a Cole Clark guitar. There is in the 225 and 325. Anyway, it comes down to your preference. Mine is for the fat lady. I emailed CC to ask when they were going to make a classical guitar. I actually got the reply from Brad Clark himself. The design of their guitars is modelled on the traditional spanish guitars, so a CC nylon string shouldn't be too far off. You can even get CC ukeleles now, the ukelady
