i'm not exactly sure what you meant with the first one remember, you can do anything you bloody like! its just a question of if it sounds good 2. it is very possible to merge scales in solos, it makes them a lot more interesting. eg E major and A major scales are similar, so they work well together, as well as Emin and Amin pentatonics (which is what i get stuck in all too often). i think Emin and Gmaj scales fit together too don't they? 3. I think it depends on what types of chords these G, B,E,C, and D chords are. if they were all major, then i have no idea what the key would be and so i don't know about a scale that would fit. this is just off the top of my head so dont take me too seriously here - if it were Gmaj, Bmin, Cmaj, Dmin, and Emin then i think you would be able to solo over it in a Gmaj or Emin scale will someone else on this board please tell me to shut up because i obviously have very little musical theory knowledge, this is just what i've worked out for myself sorry if i've confused you roy

Solo's are generally in pentatonic or blues scales, unless your into jazz sounds. You can if you like use different scales in the one solo, however most of us tend to use only one scale per solo. The scale usedis that of the key of the song i.e a song in E would normally have a E blues or pentatonic scale, likewise in the key of A then an A blues of pentatonic scale. For more information on scales there's a great manual & dvd put out by www.nofretguitarlessons.com.au - check it out.
