ohhhhhh myyyyy lordy! speechless people. state of euphoria. got there late (about 1:30) thus missing a lot of good bands (most noteably Wolfmother - will get wolfmother tabs running soon too btw) but come 3:30 i didn't give a crap, cos i was making my way thru the crowd gathering for spiderbait (i got about 5 rows from the front). really would have helped if we had a map, we almost didnt find the stage. anyhoo, about 3:45 spiderbait hit the stage, opening with 'Shazam!' i had a stitch by the end of it. after 3 songs everyone was drenched in sweat. at one point i screamed so hard i nearly passed out. i was dangerously under supplied with waterbottles. nearly got trampled also because of the crowd surging pushing idea, which was annoying cos i wanted to actually watch the band. eventually i was going to pass out from dehydration and i wouldnt have survived Black Betty (final song) so i bailed out 2 songs early unfortunately, but i crowd surfed out! awesome stuff
p.s. before spiderbait the hives were playing when we arrived, and then The Music. both were excellento as expected but the vocal mix for the Music was too quiet.
after spiderbait we (brother, sister and i) went and sat on a wall for a while watching the strange people and Grinspoon on the big screen. after grinners we moved across to watch slipknot on the comfort of the hill, which was pretty crap really. i just wanted to hear them for the drummer who is absolutely amazing. after slipknot, system of a down came on. i would have liked to watch more of them but after a couple of songs we left to go watch butterfingers. butterfingers were surprisingly excellent, i wasnt sure what to expect but they were awesome and the whole tent was jumping for 'Hook Up', their final song.
after butterfingers we headed over to powderfinger. the entire oval was packed so we watched the big screen. powderfinger were disappointingly dodgy really. they played a very soft set which might have been good but really didnt fit well with everything else. they did have an awesome blues interlude whacked into the middle of 'Like A Dog' tho, which was cool.
my siblings are hobos and didn't want to wait until the end to leave with the rest of the 50,000 people. i was quite happy to check out the polyphonic spree and perhaps chemical brothers and suffer the crush, but nooooooo, so we left at 8:45 just as the beastie boys were starting. walked straight onto a bus and then got off and walked 50m to the hotel
best day ever
