I've just seen one of my old posts where I was ranting about how much fun my Digitech RP50 was. And it was, until it ingested its own toe via its ear and imploded. First a couple of the buttons wouldn't work or needed a little extra persuasion, and then one day i plugged it in and it just lit up every pretty little LED on it and said "screw you, I'm not gonna make fun noises anymore", and that was the end of it. The same has happened to one of friends' RP80, another's RP50 and another's RP200 (the last two aren't completely dead yet, but the buttons are starting to go). So that's my rant. If you want a cheap multi-fx unit that will last you 1 - 1.5 years, then get a Digitech. Otherwise, look elsewhere or buy individual units.

I find most units in that price bracket are exactly that. Designed to make pretty sounds at a cheap price, mainly suited to bedroom noodling. I have a digetech GNX4 and love it sturdy robust i gig with it it's great.
I think you need to look at what each pedal is designed for, the rp series is designed for bedrrom noodling, once you take it beyond that, gigging band rehersals its going to be just a matter of time before they fail.

That's true, but at gigs and band pracs I treated mine just like I did at home (which wasn't violently). I didn't run around jumping on it and stuff. And if on one particular evening I was at home rather than playing a gig or something, I would probably be using it more - messing with patches and such. I see what you mean though. Gear can get a bit knocked around backstage being shifted about and stuff.

Both the bassist and lead guitarist in my (ex) band had similar types of units, and both have gone to electronical heaven!!! I have 6 individual pedals all patched, and they are all pretty bombproof (Dunlop, Boss and marshall) - shop around and you can pick them up at a good price. Like all things in life I guess, you get what you pay for.

I whole-heartedly agree! I owned an RP-200, one of the pedals broke down twice, and the expression pedal once. I sold it for a couple of hundred to my friend (sucker!). I found that it was near impossible to make a half decent tone on it. I own a BOSS ME-50 now, which is much better, but still nowhere near as good as stomp boxes. I don't know why I bought it, I should have just saved a bit more and bought stomp boxes, which is what I will do after I buy my new amp. I have a vendetta against all multi effects pedals now!
