I would save some money and buy a bigger amp with a nice overdrive/distortion channel.
But if you simply must have some effects now a Zoom 505 would be ideal.

thanks man i am also after a new amp, but the one i have right now is going ok, and aslong as u have it up loud enough u can actually hear the overdrive! heh cyas

yeah some advice here too.i have a les paul standard 57' and a shitty drive cd-100 amp (10-15 watts) its built like a brick and wont ever brake its just not that good

don't get a Digitech multi-fx. that's what I did after I started this thread. I got an RP-50 and it died within a year, as did 3 or 4 other RP-50 or -80 units that belonged to my friends. I ended up with an amp with awesome distortion built in but I know I had no hope of that when i started out. The best you can do is maybe take your gear to a shop and test out pedals with your gear.
