First up this is a very novice question. Apologies
I am wondering what happens if you play a bass guitar through a guitar amp. I know you can play a guitar through a bass amp but dont know if playing a bass through a guitar amp (Marshall MG100HDFX Head and Quad) will f**k up the cones?
Help!! Needed Urgently!!

maybe. Depends on how loud you try and turn it up I guess. Bass amps only have one cone don't they? It is bigger and can handle the bigger, longer vibrations of the lower frequencies a bass puts into it. The cone will acctually vibrate slower for bass notes, but will physically move further (I think) to push more air. You know how you can feel bass more than you can hear it. The Frequncy response of your marshall quad will probably tell you what it was designed to handle. I don't think I'd be doing it at any rate

I agree with robbieb - I lent a spare practise amp I had to the bass player in my old band. Got it back a little while later and the cones were shagged - sounded like the amp was sitting at the bottom of a mud puddle. Nice. The band was in the process of falling apart, so I never got compensation from him either!!!
Two lessons - 1) bass guitars don't go well with lead amps 2) don't lend gear!!!!
