This guy is possibly the best acoustic guitarist I've ever seen. Well, it's always hard to compare artists, and I guess you couldn't really compare him to say, Tommy Emmanuel, 'cause that's a different breed of acoustic. But he's superb, especially when you actually see him.
Yesterday I was walking down Pitt St in Sydney and saw this guy setting up to start busking. I chucked some change in his case and sat down to watch him play. I was not expecting what followed.
I know he's not the first, but he started out by playing percussion with his guitar, and I mean really playing, hitting every different part of the guitar with every different part of his hands, before changing to using one hand for melody stuff and the other for percussion. He throws in plenty of harmonics of all sorts, tapping, and sometimes reaches around the neck from the top to barr chords with his index finger whilst still playing the melody with the rest. You really have to see it to appreciate it fully.
The other thing worth mentioning I guess is the actual songs. They're all sweet, calm and relaxing (except for some that go a bit groovy/insane).
I bought his latest CD (4 tracks) and his live DVD, and suggested he should come back for the Tamworth Country Music Festival. He seemed interested, so I'm going to email him proper details about it.
One person he could be compared to is Justin King, did I see some discussion about him on this board once? If not, you should also check out Justin, he is very accomplished at all sorts of musical styles and uses two handed tapping to great effect.
So basically, this is guy is really good. He's not just a show off, he uses his techniques to achieve a unique sound and doesn't loose the feeling of the music.
You can download samples of his songs on the website I posted at the top.
