Well for me it is generally the song that I'm learning to play or just learnt to play. I'll give it a flogging and it is the song I'll play when I first pick up my guitar. Then I learn a new song and it starts over again!
But for party situations, there's nothing better than a sing along.
H&C - Holy Grail
4 Non Blondes - Whats Up?
And I play heaps of Tripod too

My favourite songs on acoustic are:
Here comes the sun - Beatles/G. Harrison
Man who sold the world - Bowie/Nirvana version
On electric:
Honkey tonk woman in open G - Rolling Stones
Brown Sugar in open G - Rolling Stones
Under the Bridge - RHCP
Grace - J. Buckley

This changes a lot, but generally i like to play songs that you can play kind of sloppily, thus allowing one to rocketh oot. eg: Foo Fighters - All My Life, or most Spiderbait songs Alter Bridge - One Day Remains is (for me) pretty challenging, so it's really fun to play Velvet Revolver - Slither is nice and easy and fun Perhaps the greatest song ever written, Closing Prayer by the 666'es is the greatest (a song written at practice the other day that goes for about a minute and is just nuts - must be seen to be believed) On drums, Toxicity by System of a Down is good, when I can get it right, and Fuel by Metallica is excellento. i like: Love Song (not the naughty version!) by Amiel No Good for Me by the Corrs Throw your Arms Around Me by Hunters and Collectors for a start. obviously i have others that come in and out of the playlist but these are pretty constant. at the moment i'd be happy to play anything - no guitar for three weeks and two to go! i'm even losing my callouses again!

Some good favourites have already been mentioned, but the songs I seem to end up playing at least once everytime I pick up the guitar are:
Old Man Sam - Spiderbait Lucky - Radiohead All Hands Against His Own - The Black Keys Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes Taylor - Jack Johnson Music Is Crap - Custard
but yeah, like everyone else I tend to always give a flogging to whichever song I'm learning at the time.
