last wednesday nite, twas getting dinner down the main street in downtown Coogee..... When a drunken backpacking fool thought it be nice to try N fight me. After trying to placate to no avail, I tried to walk away, he followed, I turned, we grappled, he starts chomping on my left index finger. I was forced to then bop him in the noggin. Fortunately this was enough to stop him. I suffered deep laceration to the chomped fingers and snapped a bone in my right hand on his rather hard head, jst above the knuckle...( I am right handed too ) ..... I had surgery on sat nite to insert pin.... Out of all this, the only thing that upsets me, is, I cant play my trusty guitar.... Its cracking my head ! DOOOHHhhhhhhh.....

Guido, It's sad to hear about the unfortunate results of your encounter. For future reference....I discovered a method several years ago in my heyday. When you're confronted by a dickhead (such as the one in your case) you get in close (within arms reach) by acting as if you didn't quite make out what they said, when they start to repeat their threats (as they always do), you punch them in the throat ...they don't expect that...then it usually gives you an opportunity to accurately place a kick in the Happy Sack region... (Limit the use of hands as much as possible as you can buff the scratches out of boots easier than your knuckles and it won't affect your guitar playing;) They normally do not want to pursue with any further confrontation and even if they do, they'll be too busy worrying about guarding their sensitive areas from getting a repeat treatment to actually formulate an effective attack on you. To summarise: Attack first, negotiate later because dickheads will always be dickheads and usually impossible or too much trouble to try to reason with. I hope your hands heal quickly and you can get back to playing Maybe you can use the finger with a pin in it as a slide? ;D ;D ;D Freezex61

hehe thanks guyzz. Freeze, that is some of the funniest stuff I have read. You brought a huge smile to my dial ! ta... ;D ;D I see the specialist in 2 weeks, so hopefully some good news comes from that. You know guys, I dont profess to be any good, I am average infact, but boy I love it and that 1 hour or so a day, when I get home from work and pick up that guitar, is my sanctuary. Oblivious to everything else around me, nothing brings me more joy. And I cant even pen anything as I have tried writing with my left hand and can't ! Dohhh .. A wise Ol' friend once said to me... ONWARDS N UPWARDS .... good advice I think.... laterzzzzz

ahhh...Coogee.....one of my old stamping grounds back in the 80's.....the idiots have obviously evolved out of the ocean from stinging jelly fish to fully fledged back packer since that time..had nothing to do with the rugby world cup did it, like , you sang waltzing matilda and he sang swing low?
the old nuns would profess that good things come to those who wait.........
Guido......good things come to those who cheat, lie and steal..., thats why I'm so broke...but thats another story
cheer up...and chat to spoon, he's hurting too......

After 3 weeks, I went to the specialist yesterday who took off the cast. He said it was looking very good, but I cant do any sporting activity until late Jan. As it was a clean break, its going to take a while longer to knit together.
But with that, my hand is free from plaster and last night I got out the guitar and played and played and played ! Ahhhhh, gee I missed it !
Coogee - I have only been at Coog for the last 7-8 years. Have a mate who has been there all his life and tells me about the 80's and basically Coogee was a little run down and not much happening. But if you could see it now. Cafe's, restaurants everywhere. More backpackers than you can poke a stick at tooo but you cant have everything I suspose ! Its on its way to being another Bondi I think... but better as it is better for getting in and out of the place !
I love it and couldnt think of anywhere else I would rather be.

Coogee in the eighties was pretty much a non event.Selinas at the coogee Bay hotel was the only spot and only if you were game enough to go for a beer and not get into a brawl. As being no where else but there.......mmmmm.....it's a big country......and Coogee or Sydney for that point, are not in the top five, Sorry city slickers, but I like to see the stars at night, not imagine them. Besides, I dont got me a Glock!!!

Used to "Rock" in the early '60's with Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs Max Meritt and the Metors Ray Brown and the Whispers Little Pattie and the Delltones. and was the place to pick up a nurse for the night from "Prince of Wales" Hospital ..most of them came down from Gunnedah complaining about the lack of men.. ;D But these days I'm afraid your right Buck
