There are many ways to form chords using different finger combinations and you should use the fingering that suits the chord progressions best, that is to say what chord you are coming from and what chord you are using next. For example if you are using C G and F chords then using fingers 2 3 4 for the G chord is best as you don't need to go through big changes in fingering. In regard to chord shapes then there are a number of versions for most chords so G can be 320003 or 320033 it depends on what the song writer or yourself likes the sound of, if you listen carefully you can usually here on a recording which version of a chord is being used.
